Himatangi beach

We got back onto the bus to go to Himatangi beach. When we got there we had morning tea. After that Mr Lobb said there were four activities they were tug of war, flag racing, drift wood challenge and sea creature challenge. Then we did two of those activities then we went to lunch. At lunch we had an ice block. After lunch we did the rest of the activities.  Our favourite ones were flag racing, driftwood challenge and tug of war. Then we got back on the bus and we drove back to school.

Super Star Lab
Recount by Isabell and Priyanka

On Monday we went to the star lab.
It was fantastic. We got to look at constellations.
And the stars made pictures, we saw Matariki.
The lady told us stories about the constellations.
It was really, really cool to see all the stars.

It was really fun. It was a little dark. Some of the stars were on the ground.

By Madeleine and Rylan

It was so big inside and outside.
When we got inside we sat on some cushions and we were so quiet that it sounded like there are some mice in there.

Then a lady talked to us about stars. They talked about stars and planets. There were photos in there.
Star Lab
Recount by Liam and Luke

On the fifteenth of May 2017 room 10 and 11 went to the star lab. It was the Te Manawa star lab. Inside it was pitch black. The only thing that we could see were the stars. A person showed us the scorpion. We saw Leo the lion and lots of other constellations. One of the other constellations were Orion. Luke and Liam’s favourite consternation was Leo the lion.  All of it was interesting. The Southern Cross kept moving around and Liam kept losing sight of it. We saw it in the school hall.
The Star Lab

The star lab showed us the stars.

I saw some animals in the star lab.
I saw little lights that were suns.

I saw some teachers they taught us about the stars.
Star Lab

Recount by Paige and Wikitoria

Yesterday we went to see the star lab.
It was interesting.
First we listened to a lady talking about Matariki, then we went into the star lab.
When we got in the lady turned off the light.
We saw star’s and the Southern Cross.
Then the lady put up some star pictures of a scorpion.
It was so dark we could not see anything.
We saw a man that was upside down – Orion.
People were shouting and lying down on the pillow.

And after that the lady talk to us and then we went back to class.

Here's our favourite class song of the term.
 Carving in the meeting house

We looked at the carving - This one is the top of a Toko Toko rakua ( a carved talking stick)
Some of the carvings were big and had stories about them and what they represented.

At the fromt of the meeting house are two big carvings - one is Whatonga  and the other Te Peeiti AweAwe

The history of the iwi is amazing and all of came away with a greater appreciation of the Rangtaane Iwi
